(Texto em ingles e portugues - Text in english and portuguese)
My mom sent me this text and because I think it is a good reading for this time of the year I decided to share it with you. I translated it from portuguese to english so we could all enjoy it.
Each one's house by Walcyr Carrasco
At this time of the year, I like to deal with life. I give clothes that I do not use anymore, books I do not want to read again. I ship boxes to libraries.I may even drop a volume in a mall or cafe, with a message: "Read and pass it on."I try to evaluate my actions through a larger perspective. I think of the story of the Three Little Pigs. Each built his house. Two of them, the wolf easily knocked down. But the third survived because it was solid. In my opinion, children's stories have great wisdom, beyond the story itself.I like this one especially. I imagine that the life of each one is like a home. Weak or strong, depending on how it is constructed.
Many people have approached me saying: I have a dream, I will make it a reality! - I shudder.Often the dream is pretty much like a house well painted. But without a foundation. The walls crack, the house suddenly collapses, and the person is left only with rubble. It is a shame
..In my professional field, that's very common.
Every day I am approached by someone who dreams of being an actor or actress without ever having studied or done any theater. How is it possible to play all the chips in a profession that one does not even know? Some people drop everything for a passion. A friend left a wife and a newborn son. The new passion lasted until the night in which, in a 10th floor apartment, the lover said she could fly. Stop playing around, he said.I know how to fly, I do! She countered. She opened her arms, ready to jump from the window. He tried to stop her. He screamed for help. They almost plummeted. He is now living alone with a cat, reminiscing about the good times of his past domestic life, missing his son and life's harmony!
Some people are concerned only with the foundation. Totally engaged in the material life. When it gets windy, they do not have walls to protect themselves. Others do not put doors. Anyone can enter their lives.
I have a friend who can not say NO (the word is not as magical as an armored door). He lends his money and never receives it back. He only dates problematic women . He lives surrounded by people who suck his energy just as authentic emotional vampires. The other day I asked him: Why do you surround yourself with so many bad people? He ensures me that next year it will be different.
Nothing will change until he repairs the house of his life. There are ordinary people who do not think of the roof. They live as if days of the storm will never came. When it rains, the house floods.Unlike people that only care about foundations, they do not worry about tomorrow.
Once a friend was able to sell a valuable piece of land that she had received as an inheritance. I told her: "Now you can buy an apartment to live." She preferred to rent a villa. She furnished it. For months she lived like a queen. Almost a year later, she had no money to put food on the table!
I take the end of the year holidays to examine the house that I've built. Did a wall crack because I took a stand against my principles? Did I leave a broken tile? Is there is a pending issue bothering me like a leak? Does my door have a key to be securely locked when necessary, but also to be open when people come with love? It is a good time to decide what to fix. To change something and make the home more enjoyable. I'm surrounded by a very special feeling. Over the years, each person builds his own house. The good thing is that you can always remodel, re-arrange, re-decorate!In the eternal opportunity to restart, lives the beauty of being the architect of your own life.
